Commercial shop signs: types and materials to choose
3D letters, light box, neon flex, backlit logos… A guide to the types of commercial shop signs, their materials and which business sign fits your shop in Tenerife.
You are opening or refreshing your shop and it is time to decide on the sign. Between 3D letters, light boxes, neon flex and backlit logos it is easy to get lost. Let us make it clear: which types of commercial shop signs exist, which material suits each one, and which sign fits your type of business.
What types of commercial shop signs exist
In commercial signage, five formats cover almost any premises. We make them in 3D, so they come out lighter and cheaper than aluminium:
- 3D letters: letters with volume and their own light for the façade. The classic quality sign.
- Light box (lightbox): a front panel evenly lit with your design. Simple, visible and inexpensive.
- Backlit logo: your exact logo lit up, ideal to welcome people on a wall or at reception.
- Neon flex: the warm glow of classic neon in a flexible LED strip, without its consumption or fragility.
- Signage and wayfinding: numbers, indicators and directories consistent with your brand.
If you want the detail of each lit format, we break it down in types of LED signs for businesses.
Materials: street or interior
The material matters as much as the design:
- PLA — perfect for interiors: decoration, wall logos, signage. Economical, but the sun warps it, so it does not go outdoors.
- PETG — functional and resistant to heat and humidity; it handles kitchens and moderate outdoor use.
- ASA — the king of the outdoors: it does not yellow in the sun (UV) and withstands salt air, ideal for façades and the first coastal line.
For any sign exposed to the weather we add IP65 electronics and LEDs with over 50,000 h of life.
Interior vs. façade: what to keep in mind
An interior sign (reception logo, decorative neon flex, signage) prioritises finish and aesthetics: PLA does the job well and keeps the piece cheap. A façade sign, by contrast, takes sun, rain and wind all year round, and there is no room to compromise: ASA, sealed joints and IP65 electronics. If your premises face the sea, salt air speeds up the wear of cheap materials, and that is where ASA makes the difference. Size matters too: we print pieces up to 30×30×30 cm in one go; large signs are made in sections, with joining and a professional finish.
